I am the sole owner of AW Designs, a web services company that was founded in 2001. With over 12 years of experience in web design, development, and consulting work, I have a strong record of providing outstanding results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Describe a typical project lifecycle.

A typical project will begin with a conversation through email, phone, or meeting to discuss your requirements and timeline. After our initial conversation, I will send you a contract outlining the details of the project, costs, and timeframe for delivery. Once the signed contract and 50% down payment are received, I will begin working on your project. For web design projects that involve a custom design, I will contact you once the homepage and one inner page are completed to obtain your approval on the design before finishing the remainder of the site. At the project's completion, I will perform one round of revisions if it is within the scope of the contract. Once you are satisfied with the final result, the project will be considered complete and the remaining 50% payment will be billed.

How do you bill clients for work to be performed?

There are two ways in which clients can be billed: (1) I provide a quote upfront for work to be performed, or (2) I bill hourly for time spent performing the work. The first method is the most popular because it defines expectations for costs upfront so there are no surprises down the road. This method is used for projects of any size. The second method, billing hourly, works best for performing basic maintenance to a site. I will discuss with each client how they prefer to be billed. Invoices are emailed out during the first 3 days of each month. Payment can be made with a check mailed to the address provided, or paid online with a credit card.

What is your typical turn-around-time?

Because I have a full-time job during the day, I perform most of my web work during the evenings and weekends. I strive to have minor changes completed within 24-48 hours, and major changes completed within 7-10 business days. An example of a minor change would be editing text, while an example of a major change would be updating the images in a header or footer. If an emergency arises that requires immediate assistance, I will do my best to ensure your issues are resolved in the same day.

Tell me more about your web hosting service.

The web hosting package includes unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwidth, and up to 5 email accounts. The email accounts can optionally be setup with Google Apps, a powerful suite of Google's web-based messaging and collaboration applications for an extra fee. You will not have direct access to the control panel, but I can provide FTP access.

What types of clients do you have?

I have worked with a variety of clients in all different phases of their business development. Some are single business owners, while others belong to large organizations with over 5,000 employees. My clients are spread across a broad spectrum of industries including entertainment, law, medical, science, finance, sports, government, and non-profit. They are located coast to coast across the United States. While some clients I have met face-to-face, the majority of my interactions with clients occur through email or phone conversations. I also work with marketing firms who choose to outsource their clients' web work to me.

What is your office environment like?

I perform most of my work at home in Newark, DE which allows me to keep overhead costs very low. I would be more than happy to schedule a meeting with you or visit your office if you work locally.

What tools do you develop with?

My preferred tools are Adobe Dreamweaver for coding, Adobe Photoshop and Corel Paint Shop Pro for image editing, Adobe Flash Professional for web multimedia, and Adobe Premier Pro for video editing. I also use Adobe InDesign for interactive PDF and book design. My computer runs Windows 7 and I use Firefox as my primary browser to design for, although I ensure that all my websites are cross-browser compatible. I use WinSCP for file transfers.

What else do you design besides websites?

I have experience designing logos, email newsletter templates, business cards, letterheads, book covers, technical manuals, and PDF forms.

I receive emails from you as late as 4am, do you ever sleep?

I am a complete night owl. I find that the quiet of the night allows me to work undisturbed. After a night's work is done, I do get some sleep. You will notice that I rarely send emails out before 11am :)

About the Designer

Allison Wong

Originally from Warren, NJ, I moved to Newark, DE in 2002 to further my education and career.

I hold dual Masters degrees in Business Administration (MBA) and Information Systems & Technology Management (MS ISTM) from the University of Delaware (UD), class of 2011. I also have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and a minor in Management Information Systems from UD, class of 2006.

In 2012, I received the designation of Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

In addition to managing AW Designs, I have 7 years of experience working in industry and 5 years of experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) clients. I was a Mainframe Engineer at Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) for 2 years, and then a Software Engineer at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), a government defense contractor, for 5 years. While at SAIC, I specialized in managing the automated logistics management system IBM Maximo Asset Management.  I used this system to manage thousands of government asset and inventory records. I was heavily involved in project management roles supporting software implementation and integration, system acceptance testing, business process development, technical writing, and user training. I worked with over 30 users spread across multiple government agencies and contracting firms. I was also the technical liaison between the US Army leadership and the Maximo program contractor to translate business objectives into technical requirements. 

When I am not running my business, I love to go salsa dancing in Philadelphia and New York City. I am an outdoor enthusiast and enjoy road cycling, running, hiking, and geocaching. Other interests include traveling, hot yoga, dining, wine tasting, theater, reading, and cooking. I am a proud first-time home buyer of a new construction end-unit townhouse in Newark, DE.
